Gloria Estes ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.Gloria Jean Estes, 86, of southern Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Corydon, Indiana.She was born on September 19, 1939, in East Chicago, Indiana, to James William "Bill" Chambers and Helen Lee Chambers. Gloria grew up with a strong sense of family and faith that would remain central throughout her life.On February 6, 1959, Gloria married the love of her life, John "Jack" Estes. Together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, devotion, and family.Gloria dedicated many years of service as an elementary school librarian in the Greater Clark County School System. She cherished working with children and helping foster a love of reading and learning.A woman of deep and abiding faith, Gloria loved Jesus and lived her life guided by that faith. She faithfully attended worship and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and more recently attended Grace Tabernacle Church in Laconia, Indiana. She especially loved singing and praising the Lord with her church family.Gloria was known for her warm heart and welcoming spirit. She loved spending time with her family, baking treats, and preparing delicious meals for those she loved. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and countless cherished memories.She is survived by her daughters, Angela Smith (Mark) and Sheri Sellmer; her grandchildren, John Sellmer (Reece) and Courtney Yarbrough (Randy); and her great-grandchildren, Irylande Sellmer, Zachary Sellmer, and Rex Yarbrough. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Marilyn Wagner (Joe), Paula Ashford (Steve), Tammy Swim (Daryl), and David Rea (Deborah); her great-nieces and great-nephews, Brian, Diane, Amy, Erica, Hannah, and Hampton; along with eight great-great-nieces and nephews.Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John "Jack" Estes; her parents; and her sisters, Judy Zanders and Beverly Lemmons.A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM.The family has chosen cremation in keeping with Gloria's wishes.Gloria's legacy of faith, love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Gloria Jean Estes, please visit our floral store.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
