Gloria J. Bennewitz

April 14, 1943 March 10, 2026

Taylorsville, UT

Gloria J. Bennewitz, 82, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at Summit Vista Senior Living. Born on April 14, 1943, in Peoria, Illinois, she was the second of five children of Wilma (Nash) and Orville Bennewitz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gary and Gregory Bennewitz. She is survived by her sister Janet Smith of Cordova, Tennessee, her brother Duane (Marie) of Bellingham, Washington, her sister-in-law Juel Bennewitz of Mackinaw, Illinois, and her nieces and nephew, Marda Kaufman (Mike), Brad Bennewitz (Kelli), and Jillian Miller (Thomas).

From an early age, Gloria was a self-starter with a keen thirst for knowledge. After high school, she began her banking career at Pekin National Bank, helping to open the new bank and its branches, which gave her a deep understanding of every aspect of the industry. In the late 1960s, she moved to Aspen, Colorado, to help establish another new bank, and later to San Francisco, where she rose to Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo. Colleagues valued her intelligence, talent, and genuine warmth.

Gloria cherished her family, music, hosting loved ones, traveling, the mountains, and the beauty of God’s creation. She shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Jean-Claud, known as J.C., who was her constant companion for more than sixteen years. After retiring from Wells Fargo, she moved to Tiburon, California, before settling in Taylorsville, Utah, drawn by the sweeping views of the Wasatch Mountains from her home at Summit Vista. There she formed many close friendships, remembered by staff and residents alike for her caring nature.

Gloria will be remembered for her independent spirit, warmth, wisdom, wit, and graciousness. She leaves behind a legacy of leadership, genuineness, and compassion that will continue to inspire her family and friends.
