Gloria Ann Hight, born on February 5, 1962, to Edward Freeman and Ethel Jenny (Ward) Reeve, in Glens Falls, New York, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Chanute, Kansas, at the age of 64. She was a beloved member of her community, known for her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to those around her.
Gloria cultivated her career as a paraprofessional, serving in Denver, Haverling Central High School, New York, and at Royster Middle School.
Her passion for helping others extended to her role as a cook, where she brought joy to many through her culinary talents. Gloria’s love for food reflected her generous spirit; she was known as a "Social Little Lady," everybody's friend.
Her sense of humor and witty personality brightened the days of many, as she often sought to entertain with her love for comedy, and was always eager to share her delicious meals or a sweet treat.
She was an alumna of Prattsburgh High School in Prattsburgh, New York. Gloria dedicated her life not only to her career but also to various hobbies that brought her immense joy.
She was an avid lover of music and dancing, and she spent countless hours crocheting, crafting, antiquing, and collecting. Her affinity for candy making added another layer of sweetness to her character and endeared her to many.
Gloria is survived by her children, Sally Thurston of Lawrence, Kansas, Daniel Jenkins of Navarre, Florida, and Davey Hight of Chanute, Kansas. Her siblings are Brenda Bly, Cherrie Ruger, and Nicole Goodsell. Gloria cherished her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren, Vivian Stemple, Elaida Stemple, Alyssa Redick, Bryson, Felix, and Seth, whose lives she enriched with her warmth and affection.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Freeman and Ethel (Jenny) Reeve, and her brothers, Terry McGovern and Kevin Ruger. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A memorial service to honor Gloria will take place this spring.
