Giuseppe Masucci

Giuseppe Masucci

Toronto, ON

Giuseppe Masucci, born on May 1, 1928, in Roccamandolfi, Province of Isernia, Molise, Italy, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 97.

Born to Domenica Iannitelli and Domenico Masucci, Giuseppe grew up in humble circumstances and learned from an early age the value of hard work and self-reliance. He built everything he owned through his own perseverance and determination, creating a lasting legacy for his children and grandchildren. At seventeen he became engaged to Angela Ciallella, and they married three years later. Their devoted partnership endured for nearly seventy-seven years.

After completing military service, Giuseppe left Italy with little more than a thousand lire, a litre of wine, and a loaf of bread and cheese. He worked in the coal mines of France for nearly five years, sending every earning home to buy land and rebuild the family house. Subsequent years took him to Germany and Poland, where he continued to labour while returning each summer to tend the family land. In 1963, he and Angela immigrated to Canada with their four children, seeking a better future. The very next day he began work as a construction labourer, enduring harsh conditions with characteristic resilience. Though he had only a grade-three education, Giuseppe possessed a remarkable mind for mathematics and maintained a sharp memory and independent spirit until the final days of his life.

He took great pleasure in his garden, growing vegetables and raising chickens, and in making his own wine, enjoying sardines and hot peppers. Above all, Giuseppe cherished his family. He loved a full house, waited each day for visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and remembered every visit with fondness. He cared for his wife Angela with unwavering devotion.

Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife Angela Ciallella Masucci; his children Palma Maria, Lucia (Lucy), Liberato (Libby), Domenic, Antonio (Tony), and Renato (Ronnie); son-in-law Ben Abdullahi; partner Benny Meffe; daughters-in-law Luisa and Mary; former son-in-law Crescenzo Pallante and former daughter-in-law Letizia; grandchildren Maria (Adamo Donatucci), Bertina (Luigi Michelucci), Marcello (Maria), Anthony (Jessica), Joseph, Matthew, Angela, Bianca, Andrew, Rachel, Noah, and Joshua; and great-grandchildren Sebastian, Gabriel, Adam, Cristian, Vienna, Lorenzo, and Nico. He was predeceased by his siblings Maria, Pasquarosa, Nicola, and Benedetto, and is survived by his sisters Cristina of Boiano, Italy, and Angela of Roccamandolfi, Italy.
