Gilbert "Gib" Eugene Wagner

Gilbert "Gib" Eugene Wagner, age 86, of Fountaintown, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Indianapolis on March 20, 1939, to Lowell and Ethel (Shaner) Wagner. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Lois Arleen (Spangler) Wagner on November 12, 1966. He worked for Indiana Bell/Ameritech for almost 30 years. He was a Master Mason at Pleasant Lodge No. 134 and a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved being a Papaw more than anything else. He is survived by his wife, Lois Arleen Wagner of Fountaintown; daughter, Cathy Jo (Roger) Higham; sister, Nancy (Jack) Simpson; sister-in-law, Mary Wagner; grandchildren, Ryan Eugene (Olivia) Wagner, Jessica Arleen (Jakob) Harris, and Vyncent Vanest; great-grandchildren, Ethan, RaeLynn, Tinley, Grayson, and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Ethel Wagner; daughter, Christine Kaye Taylor; son in law, Frank Taylor; brothers, Robert "Bob" Wagner, Frederic "Fred" Wagner; grandson, Justin Wayne Higham. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Marianne Nichols will be officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine, IN. There will be military honors at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Carrollton United Methodist Church, 1060 W. US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130.
