March 20, 1939 March 6, 2026

Fountaintown, IN

Gilbert “Gib” Eugene Wagner, age 86, of Fountaintown, passed away on March 6, 2026, at his home. Born in Indianapolis on March 20, 1939, to Lowell and Ethel (Shaner) Wagner, he graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1957 and later served in the United States Navy. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Lois Arleen Spangler, and together they built a home filled with quiet strength and devotion.

Gib spent nearly thirty years with Indiana Bell/Ameritech, where his reliability and work ethic were widely respected. A Master Mason at Pleasant Lodge No. 134 and a longtime member of Carrollton United Methodist Church, he found deep satisfaction in craftsmanship. An accomplished handyman, he took genuine pleasure in woodworking and tending his garden. Above all else, he cherished his role as Papaw, finding his greatest joy in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Arleen Wagner of Fountaintown; his daughter, Cathy Jo (Roger) Higham; his sister, Nancy (Jack) Simpson; his sister-in-law, Mary Wagner; grandchildren Ryan Eugene (Olivia) Wagner, Jessica Arleen (Jakob) Harris, and Vyncent Vanest; and great-grandchildren Ethan, RaeLynn, Tinley, Grayson, and Wyatt. Gib was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Christine Kaye Taylor; his son-in-law, Frank Taylor; his brothers, Robert “Bob” Wagner and Frederic “Fred” Wagner; and his grandson, Justin Wayne Higham.
