Gerald David Post, age 92, of Batavia, passed away on March 9, 2026 at Crossroads House surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 23, 1933 in Batavia, he was the son of the late W. Arthur and Frances Richards Post. David grew up on his great-grandfather’s farm and graduated from Batavia Junior-Senior High School in 1952. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Buffalo State College in 1955 and a Master’s degree in 1960.
He taught for 39 years in Niagara Falls, Orcutt, California, and the Batavia City School District, retiring in 1994. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, he served as an elder, on the worship and Christian education committees, and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. He remained active in the Batavia Teachers Association, New York State Retired Teachers Association, and Genesee Retired Teachers Association, where he served as treasurer for many years. David also served on the Batavia City Council, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and as a trustee and treasurer of the Batavia Cemetery Association. He volunteered for the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce for many years.
David enjoyed model railroads, model cars, reading, gardening, building miniature historic homes, computer games, and, in his later years, exploring YouTube, especially the music of the Cape Town South African Choir. He and his wife Nancy cherished family trips to Myrtle Beach, camping adventures, and, after his retirement, travels to San Diego, Window Rock, Arizona, Hawaii, and numerous railroad excursions.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Whyman Post, whom he married on November 19, 1960; his children, Shari (James) Otis of Batavia, Wendy (Lorenzo) Peshlakai of Phoenix, Arizona, and Robert (Debbie) Post of Batavia; five grandchildren, Adam Steinbrenner, Katie Steinbrenner, Andrew (Julianna) Steinbrenner, Sarah (Seth) Stevens, and Caleb (Kirsten) Peshlakai; seven great-grandchildren, Adrian, Logan, Noah, Mya, Cooper, Willow, and Madelyn; his brother, Donald (Deborah) Post of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
