Norwalk, OH
Gerald “Jerry” D. Huffman Jr., 74, of Norwalk and formerly of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Admiral’s Pointe Care Center in Huron. Born on April 18, 1951, in Willard, he was the son of the late Gerald D. Huffman Sr. and Jewel (Patrick) Huffman. A 1969 graduate of South Central High School and a member of the first graduating class from EHOVE in agriculture, Jerry proudly served six years as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era until an injury ended his service.
After returning home, he became deeply involved with the Disabled American Veterans, serving for many years as Commander of the Huron County Chapter No. 62 and as the Huron County VA Commissioner Representative. A hard-working and mechanically minded man, Jerry first worked on the family farm before beginning a long career in maintenance. He was employed at Mercy Willard Hospital and later retired as Building and Maintenance Supervisor for Huron County, where he earned the lasting respect of his colleagues.
Jerry was a devoted family man who cherished time with his daughters and grandchildren and held a deep love for animals. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting rabbits, deer, and squirrels, and he treasured two memorable bear-hunting trips to Canada.
He is survived by his daughters, Sara (Dennis) Huffman Schmidt of Louisville, Kentucky, and April (Howard Neely) Huffman of Norwalk; grandchildren Xaviar Eastman and Sylis Neely; the mother of his children, Martha Huffman; siblings Jack Huffman of Greenwich and Susan (Brian) Botdorf of Dover; niece Brooke (Andy) Meyer; nephew Jeremiah (Alisha) Huffman; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Jewel Huffman Sr.
