Gerald "Jerry" A. Swart

1940 — 2026

Goff, KS

Gerald Alan “Jerry” Swart, 85, of Goff, Kansas, passed away on March 13, 2026 at his home. Born on July 27, 1940 in Seneca, Kansas, he was the son of Henry William and Mary “Madeline” (Hailey) Swart.

Jerry graduated from Goff High School in 1959. He spent his life farming and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation in the Maintenance Department, retiring after 25 years of service. He took great pleasure in collecting Skeezix Toys, proudly owning the first production toy—a German-made tractor—as well as fishing, camping, playing cards, collecting guns, and hunting. This past winter, at the age of 85, he harvested his final deer. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

On June 1, 1963, Jerry married Nancy Grace Schafer in Atchison, Kansas. The couple shared more than 62 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; their four children, Pamela S. Leihsing (Dwayne) of Emporia, Kansas, Todd A. Swart (Gena) of Seneca, Kansas, LeaAnne Nolte (Steven) of Seneca, Kansas, and Diane E. Sowers (Jerry Morrison) of Goff, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, Ashley, Audrey, Thomas, Emily, Issac, Cameron, Kaleb, Macey, Derek, Hailey, Ava, Mitchell, Jordan, and Steven; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Leonard, Lawrence, Elver, Harold, and Melvin.
