George Willie Evans Sr. passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 11, 1955, in Sallis, Mississippi, to Reatha Harmon and Willie J. Campbell and raised by Percy Bentley, George became known throughout his life as a skilled neighborhood mechanic, a retired truck driver, and a passionate enthusiast of race cars. He participated in numerous car shows, worked at Ricks Auto Shop, and spent many hours building and repairing cars in his garage. He was the founder and owner of Country Boyz Auto and Car Wash, where his love for automobiles found its fullest expression.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, George served as the leader, hero, protector, and provider for his family, always working to keep them united. His strength, guidance, and sense of humor brought comfort and joy to those around him, while his deep love for cars and hands-on craftsmanship left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Jean Simmons Evans; daughters Lateria and Latrisha Evans; sons George Evans Jr., Rolanda Evans, Kenneth Evans, and Walter Evans; sisters Betty Mae Wilson, Dianne Witt, and Annie Witt; and a large extended family including twenty-four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, godson Dawon Jackson, goddaughter Shatiasha Pierson, special aunt Maggie Donald, as well as many uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings from his paternal side, and family-in-law from Sallis, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents Reatha Harmon, Willie J. Campbell, and Percy Bentley; sister Ruby Brown; aunt Velmatine Evans; brothers Francis Evans and Billy Bentley; and grandson George Evans III.
