He was predeceased by: his father William Shanks; his wife Marilyn Shanks; his grandson Tom Taylor; his mother Fern Spears; and his sisters, Annie Cromer, Virgie Ratliff and Linda Rose.

He is survived by: his children, Ken Shanks, Michelle Taylor Davis and Heather Mendoza. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel (2900 N Ridge Rd, Elyria, OH 44035). A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
