He was 85 years old.George was born on August 12, 1940 in Brooklyn NY to Richard and Margaret (Magee) Strype. He was raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with his fourteen siblings. George graduated from Fort Hamiliton High School and then served his country in the US Army. After being honorably discharged he joined the New York City Sanitation Department. He then became a member of the New York's Finest where he found great pride and purpose. George retired from the NYPD after 35 years of service.George was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He found great joy inspending time with his family. He especially loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events where he was known and loved by all of the grandchildren's friends.Another of his greatest joys was helping his fellow police officers as a union delegateand then union Trustee. He was well respected by all of his brother officers, oftenreferred to as a ''Legend''.His sharp sense of humor, fierce loyalty and strong will were just a few of the qualitiesthat made him unforgettable.George was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Margaret, his former wifeJoyce; his brother Richard (Mary), William ''Reggie'' (Catherine), Raymond (Dorothy),Joseph (Joan), Vincent (Joan), Gerry (Patricia) and Michael Strype; sisters Josephine(Edward) Ford, Margaret ''Peggy'' (Vincent) Mattamira, brother in laws Peter Clark andRalph Lancellotti and sister in law Ellen Strype.George is survived by his loving son Michael (Kim) and daughter Kelly (Peter) Lanza;his beloved grandchildren Taylor and Ryan Strype and Peter, Joseph and Alex Lanza; his sisters Mary Strype, Natalie Clark, Regina Lancelotti; his brothers John Strype (Patricia), Robert Strype and sister in laws Barbara Strype and Lucille (Michael)Brown along with many nieces, nephews and friends.The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 on Sunday March 1, 2026 at JohnVincent Scalia Home for Funerals Inc, 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 10:00 a.m. at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, NY 10312. Interment will follow at Resurretion Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations in George's name can be made to the PBA Widows' and Childrens' Fund at www.nycpba.orgTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
