Benson, age 78, of Townsend, DE, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026.Born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 4, 1947, he was a son of the late Michael John and Eleanor Patricia (Breen) Benson. George proudly served in the United States Army. He made his career as the vice president of Pace, Inc., a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, until his retirement in 2011.George loved laughing and making memories with his family. He was a loving "Pa" to his grandchildren whom they all adored. George enjoyed meeting new people and traveling with his beautiful wife Doreen and friends. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and watching the games surrounded by his family. He was a good cook and enjoyed seafood and Italian meals. He loved listening to all types of live music and spending time at the beach body surfing, taking walks and people-watching.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Benson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen (Sisk) Benson; children, Kelly Hagerty (Tom DelGenio), George M. Benson (Amy), and Michael J. Benson (Daniella); siblings, Patricia McCunney, Mary Davis (John), and Maggie Barilotti (Vinnie); and grandchildren, Kyle Hagerty, Jenna Hagerty, Kaitlyn Benson, Lila Benson, and Gia Benson.A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 noon on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Inurnment will be held privately.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
