George H. "Pa" Benson

October 4, 1947 March 2, 2026

Townsend, DE

George H. Benson, age 78, of Townsend, Delaware, passed away on March 2, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 4, 1947, he was the son of the late Michael John and Eleanor Patricia (Breen) Benson.

George proudly served in the United States Army before building a career as vice president of Pace, Inc., a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, from which he retired in 2011. He had a gift for making others laugh and cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories with his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was affectionately known as “Pa” to his grandchildren, who adored him in return. George loved traveling with his wife Doreen and friends, meeting new people, and spending time at the beach body surfing, taking walks, and people-watching. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan who enjoyed watching games surrounded by family, a skilled cook who particularly appreciated seafood and Italian meals, and a great lover of live music of all kinds.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Benson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen (Sisk) Benson; his children, Kelly Hagerty (Tom DelGenio), George M. Benson (Amy), and Michael J. Benson (Daniella); his siblings, Patricia McCunney, Mary Davis (John), and Maggie Barilotti (Vinnie); and his grandchildren, Kyle Hagerty, Jenna Hagerty, Kaitlyn Benson, Lila Benson, and Gia Benson.
