Anoka, MN
George E. Hurley, age 91, of Anoka, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on January 4, 1935, in Minneapolis to George I. and Alice A. Hurley, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Arcadia as a Radioman, where he worked as a communications specialist transmitting and receiving voice and data signals via radio, Morse code, and teletype.
George worked as a Cost Accountant for Erickson Corporation and later spent many years as a salesman at Creative Carton in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, from which he retired. He cherished time spent with his family, particularly at their cabin in Pine City, Minnesota. There, he created countless memories through boating and tubing on the Snake River, snowmobiling while pulling children on a toboggan, playing games, and shooting BB guns. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and the card game 500, reading books, and staying active, walking for over an hour each day until recently.
He is survived by his children Lori Comp, Todd (Mea) Hurley, Mark Hurley, Scott (Tammy) Hurley, and Jodi (Randy) Baker; grandchildren Tony (Jinelle) Comp, Preston Comp, Sydney (Chris) Snider, Mija Hurley, Jake Hurley, Ryan Hurley, Kyle Hurley, Cynthia Odens, and Carolyn Odens; great-grandchildren Elsie, Vivian, Vincent “Vinny,” and Benson “Benny” Comp; his sister Joan (Dan) Rudolph; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents George I. and Alice A. Hurley; his siblings Dale (Beverly), Pat, and Donna Mae; and his son-in-law Jerry Comp. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
