George Edward Blanton

George Edward Blanton, age 53, of Marion, passed away at Marion General Hospital on March 13, 2026. Born in Marion on December 29, 1972, to the late Denzil and Luella Aldene (Miller) Blanton, George graduated from Marion Harding High School and went on to serve the City of Marion for more than twenty years.

George had a lifelong passion for tinkering on cars and took great pride in the 1972 Camaro he restored, often taking his youngest son for rides in it. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he also loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and rocking out to classic rock—especially AC/DC, his favorite band, which he saw in concert whenever possible. In his younger years he enjoyed sharing cold drinks with his closest friends, and he was known for his generous cooking at family cookouts, always preparing enough food to feed everyone who gathered. George approached work with the same dedication, arriving early each day so he could visit with colleagues, who cherished his punctual and dependable nature.

He is survived by his longtime fiancée and best friend, Shiela Mellot; his sons, Brandon Lee, Bailey Wayne, and Cole Blanton; his brothers, Denzil, David, William, and Denver Blanton; his brother-in-law, Dwayne; his grandchildren, Elliemae, Raelyn, River, Isabella, Maryjane, Emily, and Natalee; and his lifelong friends, Randy, Keith, and Clarence “Bones.” George was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Mike, Walt, Mary, Lisa, Glenice, and Alissa.
