George A. Wade, Jr. of Tilghman, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 11, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to the late George A. Wade, Sr. and Margaret Wade, he grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Davis.
George dedicated many years of his life to public service, beginning his fire service in 1966 with the Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department. In 1970, at the age of 22, he joined the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department as a full-time firefighter. He pursued advanced training in firefighting and heavy rescue through the University of Maryland before retiring on service-connected disability in 1986. He remained closely connected to the department and was unanimously granted Life Membership by the Board of Directors in 1988.
In 2002, George and his wife, Donna, moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, where he spent more than two decades enjoying the coastal lifestyle. He found great joy in fishing, boating, and golfing, creating many cherished memories with family and friends. In 2024, he relocated to Tilghman, Maryland, where the quiet waterfront suited him well and allowed him to continue savoring the simple pleasures he held dear.
George will be remembered for his dedication to family, his years of service to others, and his love of the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna L. Wade; his daughter, Mary Catherine Lorentz (Mike); his cherished granddaughter, Catherine Alexis “Lexi” Lewis; and his sister, Noreen Potter.
