Georgann “Cookie” Eileen Mitchell

May 13, 1942 March 9, 2026

Reseda, CA

Georgann “Cookie” Eileen Mitchell passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and woman of deep faith, she touched many lives through her kindness and generosity.

Born on May 13, 1942, in Columbia, Missouri, to William Byron Doss and Katherine Doss while her father served overseas in Europe during World War II, Cookie grew up with her older brother, William Doss. After the war, her family traveled west to California in a Model T Ford and settled in Ventura. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Hollywood, where she attended Marshall High School. It was there she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Mitchell, when she literally landed at his feet during a dance. Bill proposed to her while they sat in his Ford pickup truck in the parking lot of Griffith Park Observatory.

Cookie and Bill married on December 5, 1959, in Pasadena, California, beginning a marriage that lasted more than sixty years. In 1961 they purchased a home in Reseda, where they raised their two sons, Scott and Todd. Cookie devoted herself to her family, serving as a room mother, working in the PTA, and eventually becoming PTA president. One of the greatest joys of her life was becoming a grandmother to five beloved granddaughters, whom she helped care for and loved watching grow into young women.

Later in life, Cookie and Bill became deeply involved in Shepherd Church, where they faithfully served for many years. Cookie volunteered in the nursery, served at the front desk, and was among the original members who helped establish the Vintage Ministry. She also created her own card ministry, faithfully sending notes of encouragement, sympathy, and celebration that often meant more to recipients than words could express. She loved travel and adventure, especially her church trips to Israel and Greece, and at age 81 she embraced the experience of riding a camel in Jerusalem during her fifth visit.

After Bill’s passing in 2020, Cookie moved to an apartment community near the church, where she built new friendships and remained active in the community she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Mitchell, her parents William Byron Doss and Katherine Doss, and her brother William Doss. She is survived by her sons Scott Mitchell and Todd Mitchell, her five cherished granddaughters, her dear friend of nearly seventy years Ruthie Rutledge, and many loving friends and church family whose lives she touched with her faith, service, and love for others.
