Geneva Eason Barnes

Geneva Eason Barnes, 86, of Lumberton, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. She was born on June 22, 1939, in Fred, Texas, to Emma Gladys Whisenant Eason and Cecil A. Eason.

The third of eleven children, Geneva grew up on a twenty-acre farm in Fred. A devoted sister and caretaker to her siblings, she was known for her tireless work ethic and many talents. She could till and plant a garden, mow, weed-eat, and edge with precision, launch a boat into the bayou, and prepare good down-home cooking. She found joy in attending the singles club, dancing, making new friends, and discovering family connections. Above all, her greatest happiness came from her family, who remember how deeply she touched their hearts in so many special ways.

She is survived by her children, Geneva Danna and her husband Carmello of Lumberton, Patricia Bengston and her husband Kenny of Village Mills, and Tammy Hulsey and her husband David of Orange; grandchildren Crystal Danna of Lumberton, Carmello Danna Jr. and his wife Yuko of Lumberton, Joshua Danna and his wife Jessica of Lumberton, John Robert Patterson of Nederland, Theron Hulsey and his wife Jasmine of Wrightstown, New Jersey, Trevor Hulsey and his wife Oksana of Panama City, Florida, Taylor Hulsey and his wife Caitlin of Mauriceville, and Dayla Hendrix and her husband Jared of Orange; along with her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and siblings Irene Arceneaux and husband James of Fannett, Lydia Faye Martin and husband Charlie of Longview, Burnice Eason and wife Patsy of Kilgore, Ross Eason and wife Bonnie of Diana, and Clayton Eason and wife Angelique of Kilgore.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Edward Barnes, her son Robert Neil Coleman, and her siblings James Eason, Ruby Jean Coleman, David Eason, Matthew Eason, and Denice Smith.
