Gatha Hicks ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services on Mar. 10, 2026.Gatha Murray Hicks, 93, of Asheville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2026.Gatha was born on May 1, 1932, in Caroleen, NC, the daughter of the late Stanley and Jessie Brock Garrett. A graduate of Shelby High School, she spent the majority of her life as a resident of Buncombe County. Gatha dedicated many years of service to the VA Medical Center as a Dietician. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime charter member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Gatha lived a life of remarkable selflessness, centering her world around her family and the service of others. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, her legacy of love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the father of her children, Carroll Robert Murray; loving husband, Billy Hicks; and son, Furman David Murray.Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Andy Murray, Donna Murray, Rebecca Harrell, and Luree Murray; grandchildren, Kevin Hyde, Jennifer Murray Jenkins, Drew Murray, Natika Murray, Jennifer Peek, Carroll Harrell, Theresa Galtieri, David Murray, Stanley Murray, and Garrett McMahan; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Ron Gaddy; and special friends, Jack Kimball and Earl Robison.The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00pm at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Skyland. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at the church at 1:00pm.
