Gary Wendell Pruitt

1950 — 2026

Jackson, AL

Gary Wendell Pruitt, 75, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Born on November 6, 1950, in Clarke County, he graduated from Clarke County High School in 1969 and later earned a Master’s Degree in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Southern Mississippi. He began his career as District Manager of the East County Water Control District in Lehigh Acres, Florida, before devoting 27 years to real estate in Southwest Alabama as a broker and the owner of Pruitt Appraisal Services and Pruitt Realty.

A longtime resident of Jackson, Gary was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, where he quietly supported numerous programs and families in need. An Eagle Scout in his youth, he carried a lifelong love of adventure. He enjoyed flying his Cessna 182 with his wife Diane and friends, was an accomplished woodworker, and took great pleasure in antiquing. He also cherished travel, particularly cruises that allowed him to pursue his passions for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Diane Pruitt; his children, Stephanie Ruth Pruitt, Michelle Nicole (Dale) Root, and Jessica Dawn (Adam) LaBarge; stepchildren, Alison Renee Byrd and Joshua Adam (Ashley) Rotch; grandchildren, Janie Isabella Best, Brody Tayte Byrd, Richard Jackson Rotch, and Baby LaBarge, who is expected soon; his brother, Ronnie (Sandra) Pruitt; nieces, Heidi (Chris) Newton and Wendy (Glen) Padgett; and many dear friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Cecil and Frances Orlana Pruitt.

Those who knew Gary will remember his kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit, as well as the joy and love he shared with his family and community.
