Gary Wayne Scott

1948 — 2026

Greenwood, IN

Gary Wayne Scott was a loving husband to Jan L. Scott for 52 years and a proud father to Cara M. Pyle (Paul) of Greenwood, Indiana, and Ryan J. Scott (Lauren) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born in 1948 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Hubert and Ruth (Whiteman) Scott, he passed away on March 10, 2026, at Methodist Hospital. He is survived by his wife, two children, five grandchildren, and his sister, Carol L. (Scott) Caudill. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary graduated from Greenwood Community High School in 1966, where he served as Drum Major for the band. He played drums for “The Cavaliers,” performing at proms, the Whiteland Barn, the Greenwood City Pool, and Scott Hall in Franklin, and later in the Christian band “Purpose,” which ministered in prisons and youth camps. Before attending Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis to earn a business degree, he enlisted in the Marines and served in the Vietnam War.

A devoted husband and father, Gary imparted lasting life lessons to his children, often sharing Proverbs 23:24 and encouraging them to “Ask God for Guidance, Ask, Seek, Knock… He’s always listening. He provides answers you will be humbled by.” He took great pride in his grandchildren—Sophia, Lincoln, Lawson, Lucy, and Lukas—and cherished time spent with them at the family cabin, traveling together, attending their events, and caring for them.

In his spare time, Gary enjoyed the cabin, traveling, all types of music, and playing in the praise bands at Greenwood Christian Church and Nashville Christian Church. A devoted Christian, he cherished his Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ, and he and his family attended Greenwood Christian Church for many years before more recently becoming part of Nashville Christian Church in Brown County.
