Gary was born on February 21, 1950, in Franklin, Indiana to the late Marvin Glen Mitchell and Irene Pauline (Lane) Mitchell.Gary graduated from Franklin High School and attended Asbury University. He was the caretaker and grounds keeper of the Johnson County Fairgrounds for more than 20 years.Gary was predeceased by his son, Brian Wayne Mitchell; parents, Glen and Pauline Mitchell; his brother, Dean Mitchell; brother-in-law, James Overby; and his nephew Denny Dean Mitchell; and father and mother-in-law, James and Martha Overby.He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Overby) Mitchell; sister-in-law, Ellen Mitchell and family; brother, Don Mitchell (Jeanie) and family; sister, Karen (Mitchell) Roberts and family; brother, Ben Mitchell (Candy) and family; sister, Glenda (Mitchell) Overby and family; sister-in-law, Judy (Overby) Jacobs (Tom) and family; sister-in-law Julie (Overby) Parsley (Dave) and family; brother-in-law, Jerry Overby (Teresa) and family; sister-in-law, Jenny Overby and partner, Brad, and family.A memorial service is planned for April 19, 2026, at 1 PM at Scott Hall at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.
