January 8, 1939— March 14, 2026
Amherst, OH
Gary N. Lamier, known affectionately as “Duck,” passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 8, 1939, on the Westside of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Norman and Stephanie (née Luska) Lamier. Raised in Cleveland, Gary graduated from Lincoln High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed the strong work ethic that defined his life.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command as a medic with the 28th Bomb Wing. After his military service, Gary moved west and settled in Rapid City in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. There he began a long and successful career in finance with Commercial Credit Corporation. His professional path later led him to South Bend, Indiana, Credit Investment Trust of New York, Allis-Chalmers Credit Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Deutz-Allis Credit Corporation of Cologne, Germany. Through every chapter, Gary remained known for his steady character, quiet dedication, and easygoing nature.
A life and endowment member of the National Rifle Association, he also belonged to American Legion Post 118 in Amherst and the V.F.W. on Kelleys Island. Above all, Gary cherished the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies; they were a way of life that brought him deep peace and joy. He often said that “to be hunting and fishing was a way of life to be remembered.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann (née Logar) Lamier; his brother, Steven Lamier; step-sons Philip (Diane) Pastor and Mark (Tracey) Pastor; and step-daughter Lisa (Phil) Peck. Gary was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kristy (Andrew) Dorer, Ryan (Maddie) Pastor, Markie Pastor, Emily (Mike) Gaal, Melissa Counts, and Amber (Jeremy) Stempowski, and a beloved great-grandfather. He was also a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Leah Brixey.
