Gary Lynn Smith

Gary Lynn “Snuffy” Smith, 77, of Elkins, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Born on December 3, 1948, in Elkins, he was the son of the late William Lewis Smith and Minnie Mildred Scheitlan Smith. On April 10, 1971, in Elkins, he married Barbara Lynn Hedrick, who survives at their home.

Snuffy is also survived by his two children, Teresa Sue Smith and Gary David Smith, both of Elkins; two grandchildren, Devon Bennett and Aaron Bennett and his wife Gabrielle; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett; one sister, Wilma Gimmel of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Gene, Buck, Dave, Ray, Barbara Sue, and Marilyn.

He attended Elkins High School, served three years in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge, and earned his GED during his enlistment. Snuffy worked for thirty-five years as a painter at Seneca Realty. In retirement he found joy in fishing and hunting, and he stayed mentally active by working word search puzzles. At his request, he was cremated and will be laid to rest in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery in Cravensdale.
