Gary spent his childhood in Pipestone graduating from high school in 1966. He attended college at Winona State and graduated with a degree in English and later with his master's degree in counseling from Mankato State University. Gary taught high school English at Windom High School until 1990 when he decided to change careers and became an insurance agent in Watertown.Gary married Linda Wabeke on June 21, 1969. They had two children, Rachel and John.Gary was an animal lover raising pigeons in his younger years. He had several dogs and a cat throughout his life. He spent hours running his dogs at the Gun Club or sitting in his chair petting them. Gary looked forward to any time he could spend with his pets.He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting with his dogs and John. He spent many fall days after work and on weekends with his shotgun and dog looking for pheasants. Gary loved basketball, playing from high school through adulthood. He coached youth teams while teaching and was a referee for years. He spent many hours watching sports on TV when he was no longer able to participate. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren be active in sports every chance he could. He was a proud grandpa.Gary was always a teacher, helping those who needed him, however he could.Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda; daughter, Rachel; son, John (Julie); grandchildren, Tyler, Eryn, Charlie, Harper and great granddaughter, Eloise.Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel serving the family ~ www.wightandcomes.comTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
