Gary Hudson Salyers, 90, of Powell and known affectionately as the unofficial “Mayor of Hyatts,” passed away on March 14, 2026, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
Born on September 12, 1935, in Orkney, Kentucky, Gary proudly served two terms in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 18, 1960, he married the love of his life, Janice Bentley, and together they shared nearly 66 years of marriage. A skilled heavy equipment operator, he owned and operated Salyers Grading Contractor. He was a longtime attendee of Eastside Mission Church and found great joy in working outdoors, hunting deer and rabbits, listening to bluegrass music, watching John Wayne movies and “Murder ID,” and following sports, especially football.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; daughters Jennifer (Donald) Seliskar of Powell, Jessica Salyers of Powell, and Jacinda “Cindy” (Mark) Norman of Delaware; grandchildren Joshua and Jennalee Seliskar and Audra Vaughn; brother John Moore; sisters Bessie Orsborn and Hester Ding-Kise; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Green and Bertha (Gearheart) Moore, brothers Arvel Junior Moore and Joe Moore, and sisters Eulah Mae Butcher, Margie Dye, and Jerima Ballard.
