She was born on December 23, 1939, in Bertie County, North Carolina to the late Charlie E. Watford and Garnett Ruth Wiggins-Watford.Garnell was married forty-four years to the late Raleigh Lee Mitchell, Sr. and to this union two sons and three daughters were born.Garnell devoted her life to her family and her faith in the Most High God – "Let the work I've done speak for me."She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, traveling and volunteering in various organizations.Garnell is survived by her five children: Milton L. Mitchell, Sr. of Fort Washington, Maryland, Freda A. Mitchell of Meriden, Connecticut. Sheila L. Spievey and son-in-law Michael L. Spievey of Middletown, Connecticut; Shirley D. Mitchell of Middletown, Connecticut and Raleigh L. Mitchell, Jr. of Middletown, Connecticut; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister and one brother.Services were private.
