She was surrounded by family and dear friends on her last day of earthly life.Born in Selma, AL on November 16, 1956, Gail was the oldest daughter of the late John Daniel Chadwell and Mattie Ruth Stoudenmire Chadwell. She grew up in Fayetteville, NC with her four brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Douglas Byrd High School in 1975 and then pursued additional higher education. She attended East Carolina University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Family Studies in 1979, followed by graduate school at the University of Louisville where she earned her Master of Education degree in Vocational and Community Counseling in 1984.Gail's career in the field of counseling began in Louisville, KY and continued in NC when she returned to her home state in 1990 to be closer to family. She took great pride in being a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). She held a variety of clinical positions at several public and private facilities and agencies, providing supervision to colleagues and direct care to numerous individuals and families in need until her well-deserved retirement in 2024.She loved listening to all types of music, writing, walking, reading and studying the Bible, watching her favorite tv shows, and playing the guitar whenever possible with the Durham music group Old North State Jam. Doting on everyone's pets, especially her own diva cat Miranda, brought her much happiness. Former pet cats Rebound, Taz, Lizzie Love and dog Mylie were daily companions in previous years. She enjoyed her morning coffee, afternoon diet cokes, and having time in retirement to rest and relax surrounded by the many comforts of home. She loved her son Ryan deeply and cherished memories and connections with other family and friends near and far away.In keeping with Gail's loving and generous spirit, she decided at an earlier time in her life to register as an organ donor. This decision to donate, so others may live, will be a significant part of her legacy. What an amazing gift she made.
