Denham Springs, LA
Gail Elizabeth Ouber Burgess of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Orleans on April 5, 1938, to Adam Joseph Ouber and Lucille Dorothy Helmer Ouber, Gail embraced life with a vibrant, positive can-do spirit. Her lifelong passion for reading and learning made her the family’s trusted source for current events, politics, history, and world news. She read two newspapers most days, often falling asleep with pages resting on her face, and delighted in sharing her knowledge with her grandchildren, proudly reminding them that she was a living history book.
A devoted mother and grandmother who began her parenting journey at the young age of 16, Gail saw motherhood as her true calling. She was an expert seamstress and an award-winning quilter whose creative talents brought beauty and comfort to those she loved. For more than thirty years she worked as a taxi driver for Deluxe Cab and as a private chauffeur, sharing her deep affection for New Orleans with passengers who often became cherished longtime friends.
She is survived by her five children, Rebecca Joan Gamble Lambert, Jana Lynn Gamble Landry, Gwendolyn Jean Gamble Barbaro, Wendolyn Jane Gamble Beaumont (spouse, Michael), and Timothy Adam Gamble; her twelve grandchildren, Amy, Renee, Kathryn, Ashley, Bridget (Jason), Rebecca, Rachel (Matt), Melanie (Dustin), Sarah, Natalie (Jared), and Nathan (Callegan); her eleven great-grandchildren, Alayna, Cloe’, Mikel, Brody, Deven, Dusti, Jayce, Hunter, Lyla, Arriana, Jace, Tripp, and Shay; and her sister, Jan Ellen Ouber Perera.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Burgess, her parents, Adam and Lucille Ouber, her brother, Dale Adam Ouber, her grandson Timothy Adam Gamble, Jr., and her sons-in-law Stephen Landry and Gene Barbaro.
