G. H. Walton

G. H. Walton

October 7, 1944 March 12, 2026

Murrells Inlet, SC

G.H. Walton was born on October 7, 1944, in Staunton, Virginia, to the late Capt. Grover H. Walton and Katherine Gardner Walton. He passed away peacefully on the morning of March 12, 2026, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, after a long illness, with his wife of 60 years by his side.

A graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia, G.H. attended Gardner-Webb University and later earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from The American College. He began his career at Metropolitan Life in Shelby, North Carolina, where he worked for 17 years before following his entrepreneurial spirit to own and operate his own businesses and partnerships for the remainder of his professional life.

Known for his strong work ethic, G.H. passed that value on to his three sons, which allowed him to retire early and devote more time to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Retirement also gave him the freedom to travel extensively with a close circle of friends who affectionately called him “The General.”

Preceded in death by his parents and a son, Matthew Scott Walton, G.H. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jordan Walton; sons Christopher (Cindy) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, John “Rusty” of Boiling Springs, and Jason (Ginny) of Clemmons, North Carolina; grandchildren Madison Walton Sadler (Barney), Callie Walton Burgess (Austin), Rebekah Walton, Reese Walton, and Carter Walton; and great-grandchildren Baker Burgess and Nathan Grover Sadler.
