Montgomery, IL
Fred H. Treftz, 58, of Montgomery, Illinois, passed away on the morning of Friday, March 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 8, 1967, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Fred and Elaine Treftz, he spent his childhood in Dolton. He graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University. Fred built a career as a mechanical engineer, most recently serving as a project manager at International Motors. His work took him around the globe, allowing him to visit every continent except Africa and Antarctica, with extended time spent in China, Japan, Mexico, and Canada. Those experiences shaped his curious and kindhearted approach to life.
After more than a decade of friendship, Fred married his beloved wife, Stephanie, in August 2017. He embraced fatherhood with wholehearted devotion, supporting his stepchildren, Mackenzie and Finnegan, in every endeavor. Though their time together as a family was far too brief, they shared countless adventures—whether discovering a new restaurant, watching a favorite movie, or exploring new places. Fred will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, as well as for his wonderful sense of humor, his enthusiasm for Star Wars, and his abiding love of all things peanut butter.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Treftz; his stepchildren, Mackenzie and Finnegan Murray; his parents, Fred and Elaine Treftz; and his brother, Henry (Sheila) Treftz, along with many dear extended family members and friends.
