Vidalia, GA

Fred Pifer, 64, of Vidalia, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, he moved to Georgia in 1979 and made it his home for the rest of his life.

A graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Fred earned a Bachelor of Ministry Degree from Brewton Parker College and a Master of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He served in the United States Air Force at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, where he received his call into gospel ministry. He answered that call with devotion, serving as pastor of Red Bluff Baptist Church in Soperton, Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Garfield, and First Baptist Church in Metter. He worked at the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant in Baxley for thirteen years before retiring in 2022.

Fred found joy in fishing, hunting, sports, and riding his motorcycle. Above all, he cherished watching his sons play sports. He will be remembered for his deep love of Jesus, his care for others, his faithful study and preaching of Scripture, and his warm, jovial laughter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick H. Pifer, and his younger sister, Mary Jo Pifer. Fred is survived by his sons, Justin Pifer (Hannah) of Concord, North Carolina, and Brandon Pifer of Vidalia; his mother, Jean Pifer of Kingston, Pennsylvania; his brother, John Pifer (Sondra) of Luzerne, Pennsylvania; grandsons Connor Pifer and Cole Pifer of Concord, North Carolina; and his former wife, Lori Cheek Pifer of Vidalia.
