Born on October 10, 1931, in Pinnacle, North Carolina, Fred lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, ingenuity, and a passion for learning and creating.Fred graduated from High Point Central High School and went on to serve his country as an instructor in the United States Air Force at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. His time in the military reflected his natural ability to teach and inspire others. After his service, Fred embarked on a successful career with Sperry Univac/Unisys/Burroughs as a Branch Manager in Greensboro before retiring.Fred was married to Doris Marie Traynham Mabe for 64 wonderful years until her passing on December 20, 2015. Together they built a life centered around family and shared passions. They cultivated a garden full of fresh vegetables at their home in Colfax, North Carolina, where they spent many happy years together.A man of many talents and interests, Fred had an innate curiosity and an engineering mindset that fueled his love for "tinkering" in his workshop. Whether inventing solutions to problems or repairing broken items, he was known as the ultimate "fixer." His hobbies included woodworking-crafting and restoring furniture-and building and flying remote-controlled model airplanes. He also enjoyed motorcycles, both touring bikes and dirt bikes, as well as boating and water skiing. Fred's creativity and resourcefulness were matched only by his generosity; he was always willing to lend a hand or share his knowledge with others.Later in life, Fred made his home in High Point, where he lived independently until his passing. He found joy in the companionship of Sallie Thomason during this chapter of his life.Fred is survived by his loving family: son Steven Allen Mabe and daughter-in-law Martha L. Mabe; daughter Lisa Anne Mabe McGee and son-in-law R. Wayne McGee; grandchildren Matthew S. Mabe (Belinda) with great-granddaughters Josephine and Charlotte; Michael J. Mabe (Jae Young) with great-grandson Jonathan; Mark S. Mabe (Sara); Morgan B. Mabe; Victoria A. McGee; Samuel F. McGee; and R. Parker McGee. He is also survived by his sister Janice Goins and extended family members.He was predeceased by his beloved wife Doris Marie Traynham Mabe; parents Samuel P. Mabe and Vera T. Mabe; brother Gene Mabe; sister Debbie Mabe; and close friend Sallie Thomason.Fred will be remembered as a charismatic man of substance and integrity who worked tirelessly to provide for his family while constantly striving to improve himself. His quick wit, warm humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved left an indelible mark on all who knew him.May Fred's memory bring comfort to those who mourn him as they celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. A Visitation will be held on March 28, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 01:45 PM at Cumby Family Funeral Service - High Point, NC 1015 Eastchester Drive followed by a funeral service at 2:00PM.
