Fred John Steinbach

Fred John Steinbach

May 13, 1937 March 7, 2026

Albia, IA

Fred John Steinbach, age 88, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on March 7, 2026, at his son’s home, surrounded by his loved ones under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.

Born on May 13, 1937, in Hiteman, Iowa, to Frank and Margaret (Evans) Steinbach, Fred grew up in Albia and graduated with the Class of 1955. On July 22, 1967, he married Sharon Cummins at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Georgetown. Together they shared 58 years of marriage and raised two sons, John William and Patrick Joseph.

Fred worked as a lineman for Chariton Valley Electric before owning and operating Steinbach Electric. He also cared for grounds and maintenance at Forrest Cemetery during the warmer months. Above all, he took pride in his life as a farmer and cattle raiser. A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, he found joy in the outdoors—fishing, hunting, tending his yard, and driving his cherished 1965 Chevrolet Impala convertible. He held a quiet fascination with airplanes and aviation, loved traveling out west to see the mountains and Mount Rushmore, and was known for his warm sense of humor and ready smile. Most of all, Fred cherished his family. He rarely missed a grandchild’s sporting event and found his greatest happiness in their presence.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons John William (Amanda) Steinbach and Patrick Joseph Steinbach; grandchildren John, Henry, Addilyn Margaret Ann, Emmett, and Hudson; and brothers Joseph Steinbach and his twin, Frank Steinbach. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings: Minnie Allison, Bill Steinbach, Aldrena VonOrtwick, Margaret Mallie, Bernard Steinbach, Jim Steinbach, Don Steinbach, Kenneth Steinbach, and Darlene Major.
