Fred Allen Peters

Fred Allen Peters, 76, of Chester, Illinois, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Chester.

Born on November 6, 1949, in Red Bud, Illinois, to the late Fred “Fritz” and Virginia Peters, Fred married Carmen Chandler on May 11, 1974, at First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove, Illinois. Carmen survives him.

Fred dedicated 28 years of his career to the Chester Mental Health Center. In 1995, he earned his police certification and served as a Police Officer for the Village of Ellis Grove and as an Auxiliary Deputy for Randolph County until 2012. He was a founding member of the Randolph County Rod and Gun Club and belonged to the Mississippi Valley Gun Club. An avid outdoorsman, Fred found deep joy in waterfowl and deer hunting, fishing, camping, and shooting. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and close friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Peters of Chester; his children, Jarrod (Casey) Peters of Ellis Grove and Lori (Shane) Sulser of Kaskaskia; and his four grandchildren, Whitney and Anna Sulser, and Trayton and Saige Peters. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
