Frankie Richard "Rick" Langley

March 5, 1945 March 7, 2026

Troup, TX

Frankie "Rick" Richard Langley, 81, of Troup, Texas, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. Born on March 5, 1945, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to Jesse and Mirtie Jennings Langley, he grew up in Houston before serving in the United States Air Force. He later earned a master's degree in education from the University of Houston.

Rick devoted his career to coaching and mentoring young people at St. Matthew's, C.E. King, Tyler Junior College, Commerce, and Palestine. While he achieved many victories on the field, those who played for him remember him most for the life lessons he taught about hard work, character, and perseverance. Known to many as Coach, Tricky Ricky, Old School, or Mufasa, he had a sharp wit, a tough exterior, and a remarkable ability to make people feel valued and loved. He lifted others up with his encouragement and left a lasting impression on generations of student-athletes and friends.

Rick cherished time with family and friends, whether sharing his "mostly true" stories, attending ballgames, or relaxing on the lake. He especially treasured fishing trips with his sons, grandchildren, and buddies. He could often be found near a football field or gathered around a table enjoying good food, laughter, and conversation. His sense of humor and memorable one-liners will long be remembered.

He shared 54 loving years of marriage with his wife, Ann Mullins Langley. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mirtie Langley, and his brother, Charles Langley. He is survived by his wife, Ann Langley; sons Brad Langley and wife Amy, and Matt Langley and wife Rebekah; grandchildren Brayson, Landry, Ty, Andrew, and Emma Kate; brother Roy Langley and wife Betty; sister Darlene Langley; and many nieces and nephews. His family takes comfort in the knowledge that his legacy endures through all the lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend.
