Frank Scambia

March 23, 1945 March 9, 2026

Deptford, NJ

Frank Scambia, 80, of Deptford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026.

Frank lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. He devoted his career to education, believing deeply in its power to transform lives. After earning his Doctorate in 1984, he served as a teacher and administrator in the Philadelphia Public School District from 1967 to 1996. He then joined the Paulsboro School District, where he served as principal from 1996 to 2001 and as superintendent until his retirement in 2013. He also gave generously of his time to the community, serving four terms on the Deptford Board of Education. Teaching was never merely a job for Frank; it was his calling. He found joy in both teaching his students and learning from them, faithfully supporting school events and the broader school community long after the final bell.

Beyond education, Frank remained actively involved in his community. He was a longtime member of the Deptford Jaycees and served as Director of Deptford Day for 15 years. He also served as Executive Director of “Contact,” a suicide prevention organization dedicated to helping those in need, and was a faithful and active member of Jersey Life Wesleyan Church.

Above all, nothing brought Frank greater joy than his family. He shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Pat. Together they cherished traveling and creating lasting memories with their children and grandchildren. He often expressed his profound gratitude with the words, “Look around you. I’ve got a great wife, wonderful kids, and super grandkids. What else matters? God has blessed me.” Frank’s legacy of kindness, service, and love will endure in everyone whose life he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia “Pat” (née Della Piomba); his son, Marc Scambia; his daughter, Cyndi (Brian) Stocklin; his grandchildren, Marc, Eric, Brianna, Michael, Madison, and Chase; and his nieces and nephews, Donna (Harry), Debbie, Linda (John), Donna (Kevin), and Deanna (Dan). He is also survived by 12 great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-niece.
