Brant Beach, NJ

Frank S. Santiago, 77, of Brant Beach, passed away on March 7, 2026, at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, surrounded by his loved ones. Born to Frank and Beulah Santiago on January 12, 1949, in Manhattan, New York, he grew up in Washington Heights, where he attended Catholic school and met his future wife, Maureen, as a young teenager. After building a life and family in upstate New York, Frank and Maureen retired to Long Beach Island, where they spent many cherished summers with their three children and, later, their grandchildren.

Frank dedicated his career to serving the people of New York City, first as a New York City Police Officer for 12 years and then with the New York City Fire Department for 18 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He proudly served during the events of September 11, 2001. Together with Maureen, he traveled the world with fellow firefighters to compete in the World Police & Fire Games in karate and basketball. In 2019, he was inducted into the World Police & Fire Hall of Fame.

In addition to his public service, Frank worked as a lifeguard in his younger years and later as a ski instructor during the 1970s and 1980s, while also owning and operating a karate school. He remained active throughout his life, enjoying tennis, pickleball, golf, softball, surfing, and time outdoors. Known for his laughter, magic tricks, and jokes, Frank touched many lives with his warm spirit and made his family his greatest priority.

He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn “Cookie” Ortiz, and his son, Frank Jr. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Maureen; his daughters, Kelly Scarchilli (Nick) and Lisa Kirby; his granddaughters, Ashley, Brittany (Rich), Victoria (Nate), Danielle, and Joelle; his great-grandchildren, Makaylah, Preston, Tyler, Jordan, Gabby, Holden, Mia, Christian, Daphne, and Aria; his younger brother, Wayne (Rosie); and many loving nieces and nephews.
