Frank Jones ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kyger Funeral Home - Harrisonburg from Mar. 6 to Mar. 17, 2026.Frank Rex Jones, 71, of Dayton, VA passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Roanoke Carilion Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.Born September 28, 1954 in Abingdon, Virginia, Rex is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Wanda Lancaster Jones and his twin grandchildren, Ada and Apolo Jones, of whom he was very proud. His son Zachary Jones preceded him in death.Rex retired from Walker/Tenneco after 44 years of service, serving in various capacities, including foreman. At the time of Rex's retirement, he was one of the longest-tenured employees at the plant in it's history in Harrisonburg. He made many friends while serving there and was a valued employee.He was orphaned in early age and moved to Harrisonburg into the household of his aunt and uncle, Vivian and Baxter Jones. He instantly made many life-long friends and attended Harrisonburg High School, where he graduated in 1972. He married Wanda in 1977. After living in Harrisonburg for a number of years, they moved to the Dayton area, where he and Wanda quickly developed many close friends. They both always valued their close friends. Rex served as a volunteer with several civic organizations and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.Rex had many interests, included maintaining his automobiles and being a lover and observer of wildlife. He loved to play guitar and avidly enjoyed music of all types, especially the blues and most particularly bluegrass and acoustic music. He was a very knowledgeable listener. He and Wanda attended many concerts and festivals with close friends. Rex also loved stock car racing and especially loved the Indianapolis 500, attending the race with the same group of friends for many years.In addition of Wanda, Ada and Apolo, Rex leaves behind a legion of close friends from all walks of life.A celebration of life will be held at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. The body was cremated according to Rex's wishes.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
