Frank Calvin Byrd Jr.

Frank Calvin Byrd Jr., 73, of Canton, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, Frank was born to the late Frank Calvin Byrd and Jessie Proffitt Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Byrd, and his sister, Carolyn Inman.

For more than five decades, Frank was a cherished voice on the local airwaves, working at radio stations throughout Haywood, Jackson, and Buncombe counties. His passion for music and his genuine connection with listeners left a lasting impression on the community. Away from the microphone, he found joy in traveling with his wife, Cathy, attending concerts, exploring flea markets, and sharing his deep appreciation for music with those he loved. His compassionate spirit and kind heart touched many lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cathy Byrd; his brother, Jim Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
