Temperanceville, OH
Francis Raymond “Butch” Lucas Jr., 79, of Temperanceville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at WVU Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Born on December 5, 1946 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Francis and Mary S. (Starr) Lucas, Butch graduated from Barnesville High School in 1966. A proud Vietnam veteran, he served his country with courage, strength, and honor. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator, primarily for R&F Coal until its closing. He was a member of the NRA, Batesville American Legion, and the Barnesville V.F.W.
Beyond his service and work, Butch found joy in working outside, fishing, and shopping on Amazon. The role he cherished most was that of husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family fiercely and was the kind of man who would do anything for those he cared about. His strength, loyalty, and quiet devotion left a lasting impression on everyone close to him. Through his guidance, protection, and steadfast presence, his family always knew they could count on him. The lessons he taught and the love he gave will continue to live on through them.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Lucas; brothers, Danny Lucas and Jerry Lucas; and sister, Mary Jane Lucas.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie Lucas; children, Bryan (Yvonne) Lucas, Lisa Lucas, and Krista (Shana Barker) Dunn; grandchildren, Brittany Lucas, Malanie (Colin) Newland, Casey (Chelsea Meyers) Rataiczak, Jaime Rataiczak, Brayden (Kiana) Rataiczak, Gracie Warner, Ashton (Austin) Wolverton, Auston (Haley Betts) Hannahs, and Abbey (Dillon Stafford) Dunn; great-grandchildren, Colt, Finley, Skyleigh, Briar, Cyris, Kaelyn, Kamron, Addilyn, and Aven; his loving dog, Bella; and several nieces and nephews.
