Francesco Nania March 15, 2026 Francesco Nania, 79, of Torrington, CT, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Giovannina "Joann" Nania who preceded him in death on November 30th, 2025. Born on May 13th, 1946, Francesco was the son of the late Vincenzo and Caterina Nania. Francesco was employed by the Torrington Company. Francesco was born in Sorbo San Basile, CZ, Italy, and raised there until the age of 25 before he moved to America with his wife, Giovannina. He was an avid gardener, loved to make homemade wine and sauce. He loved the Italian National Soccer Team and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to travel to Italy. Francesco is survived by his two sons, Vincenzo Nania and Giuseppe Nania. Along with his three grandchildren, Marissa Nania, Joseph Nania, and Gia Nania. He was the eldest son of four and beloved brother to Rosetta Nania, Genio Nania, and Pina Nania. Along with his brothers and sisters-in-law, Benjamin Canino; Frank Canino (Elvira), Serafino "Sal" Canino (Heather); Rosemary Graziano (Frank), Carmela Cavalieri (Giorgio), Delfina Canino McKenna (Christopher), Antoinette Power (Morgan) and Rita Dlugoleski (Michael); along with many cherished nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward. In addition to his wife and parents, Francesco was predeceased by his nephew, Vincenzo Graziano. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19th, 2026, at St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a .m. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting people make a donation to "The Nania Grandchildren College Trust Fund", 120 Lafayette St., Torrington, CT 06790, towards a scholarship fund for Giovannina and Francesco's grandchildren.
