Frances Spaulding, age 94, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 30, 1931, in Easton, Illinois, Frances was the daughter of John and Julia (Drohan) Cunningham. She married Floyd Spaulding on September 14, 1957, and they shared 68 devoted years together until his passing.
A woman of quiet strength and deep faith, Frances worked at Frank Rosenberg, Inc. and Saldwedel/Borden Dairy in Pekin before later serving at Kirby’s Department Store and Floyd’s Insurance Office. In her retirement years she volunteered for many years with Daily Bread and local food bank programs in Greenview. She remained a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Petersburg, the Menard County Historical Society, and the Greenview AmVet Auxiliary, Post 179.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her parents, her brother Paul Cunningham and sister-in-law Pat, her sister Margaret Lively, and three of her children: daughter Teresa, who passed at age four from a heart condition, son Bobby in 1997, and son John “JS” in 2022. She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Wiss of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Alice Larnerd of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Zacharia Spaulding, Jade (Jimmie) Thomas, Celia (Ben) Lanctot, Guy (Rachel) Wiss, Garrett (Sarann) Wiss, Alexandra Martin, and Maxwell Martin; four great-granddaughters, Nikki Spaulding, Emma and Hunter Thomas, and Maddie Spaulding; and by the children of her heart, Cheryl and Bob Pinkston and Michael Meehan, along with many great-grandpuppies.
