Frances Mae Alger Taylor, 92, of Shenandoah, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. Born on May 12, 1933, in Stanley, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Elyon Housden Alger and step-father Berlyn Dofflemyer.
On June 1, 1951, Frances married James Elwood Taylor, who preceded her in death on November 6, 2004. She attended Stanley and Shenandoah Public Schools and worked at Genie in Shenandoah for ten years before devoting herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. A longtime member of First Christian Church, she found great joy in gardening and cooking. Above all, she was a devoted wife and a loving, attentive mother whose warmth touched everyone around her.
Frances is survived by her two sons, Larry E. “Hobby” Taylor and Gary A. “Red” Taylor and his wife Anita; her daughter, Wanda Foltz and husband Billy, all of Shenandoah; nieces Sue Huffer and Dennis, Trudie Lucas and Roger, and Lois Hensley; nephew Lynn Herring and Lisa; and her beloved dog, Ginger.
