Montgomery Jr. (Monty), 97, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 7, 2026. Born in Sorgho, Kentucky, on November 4, 1928, to the late Floyd C. and Loretta Weaver Montgomery, he was the second of nine children. Floyd was an Air Force veteran attaining the rank of Tech Sgt. He married the love of his life, Carolyn I. Suter, on June 29, 1948, and settled in Memphis, Tennessee, where they raised their family.Professionally, he dedicated 23 years to working for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller and later as a computer specialist.Floyd was a proud husband, father, and grandaddy who loved spending time with his family. He was a handyman who never said no to a project and was a real do-it-yourself kind of guy. He also enjoyed the simpler things in life - Hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved being a grandaddy and including all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his many joys in life. Floyd and Carolyn were both longtime parishioners of St. Paul Catholic Church in Memphis.He was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Carolyn Montgomery, daughter, Barbara Montgomery Parham, and Timothy Sere (husband of granddaughter Jennifer Montgomery Sere), sister Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Durbin, brother Robert Montgomery, and brother Thomas Montgomery.He is survived by his children: daughter Linda Reilly (Pat), son David Montgomery (Lisa), son Gordon Montgomery (Julie), and daughter Patricia Gillenwater (John), 15 grandchildren: Patrick Reilly, Allison Reilly Loyd, Brandon Reilly, Jennifer Montgomery Sere, Melissa Montgomery Morris, Philip Montgomery, Walker Montgomery, Stephanie Montgomery Hughes, Tyler Montgomery, Hayden Montgomery, Jordan Montgomery, Clayton Montgomery, Angel Montgomery, Emily Gillenwater, and Caroline Gillenwater, 13 great grandchildren: Hayes and Brooks Reilly, Grayson and Reilly Loyd, Michael Luke, Penelope, Eleanor and Scarlett Sere, Matthew Jr., Hudson and Lincoln Morris, Rachel and Jacob Hughes. Siblings: James Montgomery, Mildred Bruggenschmidt, Eleanor Martin, Annie Martin, Rita Heine, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all memorial donations be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18th, at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM.
