Florita White Nelson, affectionately known as "Mymy," was a native of Prichard, Alabama. She passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, one day after her 82nd birthday. Born on March 11, 1944, to Fate and Addie White, Florita graduated from Blount High School and attended Bishop State Community College.
She enjoyed a long career as a telephone operator with South Central Bell and later retired from AT&T after 27 years of dedicated service. A believer in Christ, Florita was a faithful member of Delaware Street Missionary Baptist Church. Those who knew her remember her as a loving and giving woman whose kindness touched everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Clarke Nelson; her brothers, Lee Del (Precious) White, Fate White, and James White; and her sisters, Catherine White Thomas, Dorothy White, Elizabeth Craig, and Gladys Lacey.
Florita leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Carla (Tony) Young, Sharla (Dallas) Taylor, and Cheryl Williams; two siblings, Deloris Green and George (Ethel) White; seven grandchildren, Victoria (Raphel) Williams, Sadequa Pugh, Brandy Williams, Sharita Dubose, Sivon (Bryan) Ezell, Simone Pugh, and Ashley (Stefone) Thomas; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a devoted church family.
