Florence Dearing

Florence (Unruh) Dearing, 97, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the Harbor House in Hingham, Massachusetts. Born on April 10, 1928, in Galva, Kansas, she was the daughter of Elias T. and Susie (Schultz) Unruh and one of 17 children.

Florence was married to Leslie E. Dearing, who predeceased her on February 8, 2017. She worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T until her retirement in 1986. Over the years, she lived in Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and finally Hingham, Massachusetts. A woman of deep faith, she was actively involved in churches wherever she lived and was a longtime member of Ballwin Baptist Church, Madison Baptist Church, and Fellowship Baptist Church in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Those who knew her remember Florence as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She gave tirelessly of herself to care for her family, always ensuring that everyone around her was looked after and had what they needed.

She is survived by her daughter Linda (Peter) Longley of Cohasset, Massachusetts; her son Daniel (Sherri) Dearing of Little River, South Carolina; her daughter Barbara (the late Larry) Friedman of Moorestown, New Jersey; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her brother Derald (Shirley) Unruh. She was predeceased by eleven sisters—Anna Jones, Nina Becker, Dora Unruh, Mulvena “Molly” Unruh, Velma Deppe, Marie Unruh, Maurine Christensen, Thelma Gibson, Betty Jean Wiseman, Winnie Mae Wiseman, and Melissa Sue Unruh—and four brothers—Edwin “Pete” Unruh, Joseph Unruh, Sgt. Walter Unruh, and Arvin Unruh.
