Fernando Pena Martinez, Jr., known affectionately as “Junior,” of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 9, 1953, in Hondo, Texas, to Fernando Pena Sr. and Anita (Lopez) Martinez, he brought warmth and laughter to everyone who knew him.
Junior was cherished for his lively sense of humor and his gift for gathering people together. He loved cooking and barbequing for family and friends, often filling the neighborhood with the aroma of grilling while sharing food, stories, and good company. A natural jokester, he delighted in making others laugh and brightening their days, and those who spent time with him were sure to hear one of his many colorful tales told with his unmistakable personality.
Family was everything to Junior. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, cherishing every moment spent sharing meals, telling stories, or simply enjoying one another’s company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Anita Martinez, and his sister, Gloria Jaso. Junior is survived by his brothers, Ray Martinez (Janie), Oscar Martinez (Maggie), Jesse Martinez (Vickie), Roger Martinez (Cynthia), Joe Martinez (Jovita), Johnny Martinez (Juana), Michael Martinez, and Martin Martinez; and his sisters, Frances Quirino (Junior), Mary Lou Gauna (Erasmo), and Dora Villarreal (Juan), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
