Faye Sheley

1938 — 2026

Taylorville, IL

Faye Sheley, 87, of Taylorville, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Born on November 9, 1938, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, she was the daughter of Albert and Gladys Rigg and the youngest of seven children. Faye grew up on the family farm, where she found simple joys playing in the woods with her dog by her side, even as the household lacked running water and electricity for much of her early years.

After high school, she attended Lincoln Christian College and supported herself by working at Frank’s Food Fair. It was there she met Ronald Sheley, whom she married on September 18, 1960, at Lick Prairie Christian Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple spent 42 years working side by side in grocery stores, building a life rooted in hard work, partnership, and quiet dedication. Faye was an avid reader whose intelligence was matched only by her humility and grace. She loved gardening and plants, cherished travel across the United States and overseas, and held a deep faith that shaped her days.

Faye and Ron were among the earliest members of Taylorville Christian Church, watching with pride as it grew into a thriving congregation and school. Above all, she was a loving mother to her three children, instilling in them strong values, a love of God, and a generous spirit. Her quiet strength, wisdom, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Ron; children Randy (fiancé Cathy) of Taylorville, Stan (Leslie) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ryan (Kris) of Taylorville; grandchildren Ashley Koniak (Jake), Kyle Sheley, Kala DeMuro (David), Danielle Hann (Ryan), and Wyatt Sheley; and three great-grandchildren, Ally, Mady, and Baby Hann, due in June 2026. She also leaves sisters-in-law Sandy and Jeannie, brother-in-law Dennis, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Frank, Sam, Fred, Mary, Ida Mae, and twin brother Ray, brother-in-law Kenneth, and daughter-in-law Jeanette.
